Prior to their June Hole-in-the-Rock Trek, all youth in the Blanding West Stake were encouraged to learn something about the life, and character of those early travelers to San Juan. To expedite this, Stake Leaders assigned individual pioneer name from the original Hole-in-the-Rock group, to each youth in the stake. They these "new pioneers" were grouped into families. Several of the family groups spent time together learning how to do research and compiling a personalized story of their trail hero or heroine.
